What is actually at stake
Energy-based machines are the easiest thing in aesthetics to fake, because the patient cannot see the difference between a RM400,000 platform and a RM15,000 clone in a nice housing. The clone problem spans Ultherapy, Pico lasers, HIFU, RF devices, and fat freezing. Fakes underdeliver at best; at worst they burn, scar, cause fat loss, or trigger rebound pigmentation, and because the operation was misrepresented from the start, there is no manufacturer support and no recourse.
If the price is this low, it is not real
Genuine flagship platforms (Ultherapy, major Pico brands, branded cryolipolysis) cost clinics roughly RM200,000 to 600,000, which is why genuine sessions have a price floor. Sessions priced at RM68 to 199 for "the same" treatment are running on clones. The session price is the machine's confession.

How to tell real from fake
- 1Ask the platform's brand and model by name, then search it. Real platforms have manufacturer pages, and clinics running them name them proudly on their menus.
- 2Ask to see the machine. Genuine platforms carry manufacturer branding, serial plates, and for many devices, on-screen software with the brand identity. Taped-over logos and generic touchscreens are answers.
- 3For treatments with consumables (Ultherapy transducers, some laser tips), ask to see sealed branded packaging opened for your session.

- 5Confirm a licensed doctor performs or directly supervises the treatment. Clone machines cluster where doctors are absent: salons and "beauty centres". Check any doctor's licence.

What clone machines actually do
The most common outcome is a placebo with ambience: underpowered clones deliver sensations without results, and the patient concludes the treatment category "does not work for them." The harmful tail is real: laser clones with wrong pulse profiles causing burns and rebound pigmentation on Asian skin, HIFU clones misfiring into fat and nerves, freezing clones causing frostbite injuries. Salon settings compound it: no doctor to recognise a complication, no registration to complain to, no insurance behind the door.
