Compare · Real vs Fake Threads
Genuine threads vs unbranded: what is actually going under your skin?
A thread lift's safety lives in two places: the doctor's hands and the thread's origin. Patients check the first and forget the second.

What is actually at stake
Threads are implanted medical devices that stay under your skin for months. Genuine Korean brands (Mint, N-Cog and peers) are manufactured to medical device standards with regulatory clearance, predictable barb strength, and sterile packaging. Unbranded threads from grey suppliers cost a fraction and behave like it: barbs that fail early (lift collapses in weeks), threads that snap or migrate, and in the worst cases contaminated product causing infection and granulomas, lumps of inflamed tissue that can need surgical removal.
If the price is this low, it is not real
Thread lift with genuine branded threads by an LCP licensed doctor: RM1,500 to 4,000 for a meaningful lift verify. Salon and budget offers: RM300 to 800 "full face". Genuine threads cost the clinic real money per unit; a RM399 twenty-thread special is arithmetic telling you the threads are not what you think.

How to tell real from fake
- 1Ask the thread brand by name, and expect a specific answer: Mint, N-Cog, or another named, registered brand. "Korean threads" with no brand is not an answer.
- 2Ask to see the sealed thread packaging before the procedure. Genuine threads come in sterile, branded, lot-numbered packs opened for your treatment.
- 3Confirm the injector is an LCP licensed doctor at an MOH registered clinic. Thread lifting by beauticians is illegal in Malaysia. Check any doctor's licence.
- 4Ask how many threads and which type for your plan, and confirm the quote matches. Underdelivering thread count is the soft version of this scam.
- 5Sense-check the total price against the genuine range above.
What unbranded threads do under your skin
The mild failure is a lift that vanishes within weeks as weak barbs give out, which is disappointing but survivable. The bad failures are the implant failures: thread migration and extrusion (a thread tip working out through the skin), visible dimpling and asymmetry, and infection or granuloma from non-sterile product, which can mean surgical removal and scarring. An implanted counterfeit is categorically worse than a topical one: you cannot wash it off, and someone has to go back in to fix it.
Where to get the real thing
Malaysian licensed clinics use the same genuine Korean thread brands as Seoul, at Malaysian prices, with your doctor locally available through the settling period, exactly when thread questions arise. BookAClinic verified clinics are checked for LCP licensed doctors and MOH registration, and the brand-and-packaging questions above take two minutes at consult. A clinic proud of its threads shows you the box.
