1064nm wavelength penetrates deeper with less surface absorption, bypassing the melanin-rich epidermis more effectively than shorter wavelengths.

Not a Laser, High Risk for Dark Skin
Broadband light across multiple wavelengths, less precise than laser. Significant epidermal heating in darker skin, creating substantial PIH and burn risk. Many beauty centres offer "IPL facial" treatments inappropriate for Fitzpatrick IV–V. Always ask if the device is a true laser or IPL.
Superseded by Pico
Nanosecond Q-switched lasers were the previous generation. They work but carry more heat and PIH risk than Pico. Still used in some clinics, effective with appropriate settings but Pico is now the superior standard for Asian skin pigmentation.
Caution at Fitzpatrick V
Can be used safely for Fitzpatrick III–IV hair removal with proper settings. For Fitzpatrick V, long-pulse Nd:YAG is generally preferred.
