Sculptra works slowly and is usually planned over more than one visit, so the first consultation is about fit and budget, not a same-day decision. Bring your health details, ask who should not have it, and get a written quote that states the price per vial and the planned course.

What Sculptra is
According to the manufacturer's instructions and the US FDA, Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), sodium carboxymethylcellulose and mannitol. The clinic mixes it with sterile water before use, and lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) may be added. The manufacturer says the product breaks down gradually, over 18 months or longer.

Who should not have it, and what can go wrong
The manufacturer's instructions and the FDA list reasons not to use Sculptra, including allergy to its ingredients, severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis, keloid or raised-scar history (FDA), allergy to lidocaine when it is added, and active infection or inflammation such as pimples or rashes in or near the area. The manufacturer also advises caution for people with bleeding disorders or on blood thinners, who may bruise more.
The manufacturer notes that lumps under the skin (papules or nodules) can appear, and that inflammatory reactions, nodules and granulomas can appear late. Ask your doctor how they reduce these risks, what massage you will be asked to do, and who you contact if a lump appears months later.
Why results are gradual
The manufacturer's instructions say the depression should gradually improve over several weeks, which is why they warn against overcorrecting on the day. In the FDA's summary of the study for fine lines in the cheeks, patients received up to four injection sessions, and results may last up to 24 months.
That finding is for cheek fine lines in the US study. The manufacturer's instructions list other areas too, but US approval is not Malaysian authorisation. Ask your doctor which local product information applies to the area you want treated.
Reading a Sculptra quote
These are figures published on three clinic websites, checked on 27 Sep 2026: two clinic prices (Premier and Nexus) and one general guide range (on Sheen's page). They are not a national average, and none of them clearly states whether consultation, numbing or review visits are included. Nexus's 9 ml is the volume after mixing, not the amount of product.
The total depends on how many vials and sessions your doctor plans. Ask for the price per vial, the planned number of vials and sessions, what is included, and whether you can decide one session at a time. Some clinic pages suggest rules of thumb for vial numbers; your doctor's assessment should set your plan, not a general rule.
